Nokia Networks launches WAP access for Online Services for operators
Nokia today announces a WAP user interface to its Nokia Online Services,
bringing interactive business-critical mobile Extranet services to Nokia's
network customers. The WAP user interface enables Nokia Online Services
customers to access eServices and eCommerce over the Internet with mobile
handheld devices, such as Nokia media phones.
Nokia Online Services WAP access will be demonstrated at Telecom 99, in
Geneva, Switzerland, and it will be available during the first quarter of
2000. The infrastructure solution is based on the Nokia WAP server. The
first features that have been launched are news services and technical
announcements.
Nokia Online Services is an eBusiness concept to complement conventional
customer service. Nokia makes it possible for its customers to review
products, place orders for certain products, and get immediate answers to
technical questions with secure online access to confidential Nokia
product and system information.
"What is revolutionary here is that now Nokia Network customers can access
business-critical data wherever they go," says Pekka Oranen, Senior Vice
President, Professional Services, Nokia Networks. "By combining the
Internet and mobility, we see the emergence of a mobile information society that
will change the way we work and communicate today. Nokia aims to spearhead this
development with new business-to-business solutions to our customers."
Nokia Online Services currently covers Preventive Maintenance, which
includes technical product announcements kept in an inventory online;
Trouble Management which incorporates an intelligent search engine which
searches a database for quick answers to technical questions; Spare Part
Management in which the customers will be able to manage their spare part
logistics and order new spares; and Training, which provides a complete
picture of various educational opportunities available to our customers.
To complete the picture, Nokia Online Services offers a platform for
customer-specific team rooms. New services are expected to be frequently
introduced.
Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its
innovative products and solutions. Nokia is the leading mobile phone
supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks including
related services. It also supplies multimedia terminals and computer
displays. In 1998, net sales totaled EUR 13.3 billion (USD 15.7 billion).
Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki,
Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more
than 51 000 people.
