Materna unveils innovative WAP solutions at World Telecom
Dortmund/Geneva, 10.10.99. At the largest World Telecom in Geneva, Materna is exhibiting innovative WAP portals for international businesses and network carriers. Globally, Materna is the only provider of solutions from a single source, offering complete "one-stop shopping solutions". WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) portals are entry points into the world of mobile communications. Mobile phones are used to access information. Materna is exhibiting in Hall 4, at Stand number 4071.305.
WAP portals run by Materna provide access to many kinds of information, such as news, sports, interactive services and leisure while offering WAP applications as well (e.g., Unified Messaging and Time/systems). In addition, WAP portals provide information on stocks, winning lottery numbers, Deutsche Bahn timetables as well as telephone directory services.
Another highlight of Materna's WAP portal is the personalization feature, which allows customers to assemble their own individual WAP portals. Personal options can be easily set with a WAP-capable mobile phone or via the Internet. In addition, customers can easily switch the portal to a different language, such as, for example, from German into English.
Materna WAP solutions
Materna's implementation of professional WAP solutions comes as a full-service offer, which means that the complete value-added service platform is included with the WAP server. These solutions are always based on Materna's flexible and accommodating WAP gateway. The basic WAP integration is the foundation for numerous value-added services, which are customized solutions that accommodate each client's individual needs. Customized services include mobile messaging solutions, banking and commerce applications, as well as the outsourcing of the entire value-added service infrastructure for mobile network carriers, including clientele-specific billing procedures.
Materna guarantees complete implementation and fail-safe operation of its unique WAP services for consumers and corporate customers. Embracing the theme of "managed services", Materna develops and operates an appropriate WAP solution for each customer based on the modular design of the WAP service portfolio: content services, application hosting, HTML conversion, mobile Unified Messaging, WAP portals that can be customized, as well as Over-The-Air (OTA) configuration. Sales of the entire system as a turnkey solution, with the carrier being responsible for operations, have been successful as well. Materna supports the open standard and offers full WAP 1.1 compatibility, thus supporting all WAP devices. As a member of the WAP Forum, Materna is actively involved in the ongoing development of the WAP standard, guaranteeing the ongoing expansion of Materna's service portfolio.
Segmentation of the WAP market into private and business customers
The WAP market is divided into two sectors: business customers and private customers. Business customers in particular often require Intranet links, mobile Unified Messaging, mobile commerce and security solutions. The goal is to guarantee mobile access to very different types of applications within the company. Usually, these services require solutions that accommodate the individual needs of the company's IT infrastructure. As a software and solutions provider, Materna is a competent partner when it comes to implementing WAP applications.
Private customers, on the other hand, often want access to a broad range of information and interactive services, as well as access to basic network services, such as, for example, telephone directories. In addition, private customers will increasingly want access to mobile Unified Messaging as an important communications medium. In this context, individual communications solutions dominate the private market segment. The private market segment is serviced by network carriers for whom Materna provides the complete line of WAP services.
