SmartServ Demonstrates Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-Enabled Trading Application with Strategic Alliances at Wireless IT '99
WAP application brings complete and secure Web-based stock trading solution to wireless devices.
Santa Clara, Calif. (Wireless IT) - November 2, 1999. SmartServ Online, Inc. (OTC: SSOL) a leading provider of Web and wireless transaction-enabling solutions, is demonstrating this week its WAP-enabled trading application optimizing its Web-based application for use on Internet-ready wireless handsets, such as Nokia's WAP-compliant handset and those equipped with Phone.com's microbrowsers. The new WAP-enabled trading application, along with a Windows CE version, is being demonstrated at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association Wireless IT '99 trade show in Santa Clara, Calif., at several locations, including SmartServ Online's booth #1135, the Microsoft booth #935, Mitsubishi Wireless booth #500 and Data on Air booth #1141. In addition to these demonstrations, SmartServ's chairman and CEO, Sam Cassetta, will be speaking as part of the Wall Street Goes Wireless session of the Wireless IT conference.
"Being asked to demonstrate our applications by major players like Microsoft and Mitsubishi says a lot about SmartServ's world-class development team," said Robert Pearl, director of business development. "There are a lot of developers who are just now getting their feet wet with protocols like WAP, but SmartServ's been at it for over a year. Couple that with our ability to route transactions and you have an extremely powerful wireless e-commerce solution."
Unlike purely wireless applications, SmartServ's trade-routing function and real-time data applications are Web-based. That allows SmartServ's team of programmers to use standards like WAP and Windows CE to securely extend the Web-based model to a mobile environment. The customizable wireless trading application enables brokers to capitalize on the growing number of mobile users, particularly in the near future with the anticipated proliferation of microbrowser-equiped devices. SmartServ is already discussing deployment plans for the new solution with online brokers, wireless carriers, handset and gateway providers.
In addition to providing real-time market information, SmartServ's wireless stock trading application offers many of the same features found in the Web-based system, including blotter with running average price, book and rebook. The end-to-end solution provides both application-level authentication and enforces security measures which conform to the WAP Specification.
