ZTANGO.COM Harris Launches International Organization from New, U.S.-Based Headquarters
TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY VETERAN, JOHN R. HARRIS, LEADS INTERNATIONAL WIRELESS INTERNET SOLUTIONS CORP.
RESTON, VA, December 15, 1999 - Ztango.com Inc. - a pioneer in developing wireless Internet services for mobile operators, content providers and corporations - today announced the appointment of John R. Harris as President and CEO. Ztango.com's proven software solutions enable the delivery of Internet-based services to today's installed base of digital wireless phones, and tomorrow's WAP-enabled smart phones.
Harris leads a newly integrated organization poised to capitalize on explosive growth in the wireless Internet market through value-added software applications, and a proven platform used by over 30 clients in Europe and Asia, acquired through the merger of several Finnish wireless telecommunications technology firms.
Harris is a 25-year information technology and telecommunications executive who, as President of Electronic Data Systems' Communications Industry business units, aggressively grew EDS' telecoms practice into an $850 million business with a staff of 5,000 that delivered customer care, systems integration and development/consulting services to clients in 22 countries.
"The wireless Internet industry is the fastest-growing segment of the global telecommunications market, with year-2003 projections calling for nearly 1 billion cellular/PCS subscribers and $1 trillion in revenue from mobile commerce applications. Ztango.com provides key enabling technology to allow wireless-to-Internet connectivity and service delivery, as well as a spectrum of value-added applications for delivering content, information and productivity services, " said John Harris, Ztango.com President and CEO.
"Ztango.com's dual-mode technology and applications let service providers and corporations immediately capitalize on this opportunity by giving end-users the services they demand - including personalized information, corporate intranet access, mobile office services and m-commerce - with a built-in migration path for WAP-enabled devices.
"Our business proposition for those who want to maximize their wireless investments is simple: In a matter of weeks, we can enable your network to deliver Internet-based services to an installed base of over 200 million users today, and to future users of WAP-enabled devices. There is no need to wait to increase your revenues, build your subscriber base, expand the reach of your marketing channels, or to give your mobile workers an extra competitive edge in the field," Harris said.
The Ztango.com platform supports Global Standard for Mobile (GSM), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks. The platform works with current-generation digital handsets including those manufactured by Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, and Siemens, and works with newer phones equipped with browsers and operating systems including Phone.com's UP.Browser, MS Windows, Symbian and EPOC, among others.
Ztango.com is a pioneer in the development and implementation of software technology that is enabling the convergence of the wireless and Internet worlds. The company was the 8th member to join the WAP Forum, and its technology supports the WAP standard that is expected to be the basis for the next generation of wireless Internet-enabled phones. Ztango.com is based in Reston, Va., with a 70-employee European technology center located in Helsinki, Finland.
