Vodafone Limited selects CMG's WAP Service BrokerTM solution for instant commercial launch.

Roll-out work has started with supplies to Vodafone Limited.

Cannes, 2 February 2000. Vodafone Limited has signed an agreement with CMG Telecommunications for the supply of their WAP Service BrokerTM solution. The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) gives mobile phone users direct access to Internet content. The protocol combines the simplicity of Internet browsing with the convenience of making a telephone call.

The WAP Service BrokerTM has already been installed for Vodafone Limited and will be providing Vodafones UK subscribers with full WAP services. Vodafone UK is part of the Vodafone-AirTouch Group which is the largest mobile operator in the world with more than 35.5 million proportionate customers in 24 countries.

"We chose the WAP Service BrokerTM because CMG offers a turnkey, telco-standard, full-service solution, that also includes WAP development and system integration consultancy services," said Alan Harper, Managing Director of Vodafone UK. "After careful evaluation of all current WAP Gateway products, we found that CMG offers the most robust and scaleable telecommunications solution."

"We are extremely pleased that the UKs number one operator, Vodafone, has selected CMGs WAP Service BrokerTM for deployment. Our solution puts the operator in the driving seat for exploiting WAP services in a commercial setting. CMG Telecommunications has a leading role in mobile messaging and mobile internet solutions and Vodafones decision to place such an important order with us, is proof that we are following the right path," said Peter Maathuis, Vice President Global Sales & Marketing.

The WAP Service BrokerTM is fully WAP 1.1 compliant and runs on high performing UNIX platforms. The solution is fully scaleable and can also be provided on redundant configurations for achieving highest availability in the WAP gateway market. The WAP Service BrokerTM gives the operator key business capabilities that include user directories and service directories. These capabilities are the basis for flexible user access and service access control mechanisms and for integrated service detail recording at both the network and service level.
