The Location Manager is a versatile software hub that allows multiple wireless location technologies to interoperate. It provides a crucial link in location-finding technologies, wireless networks and wireless location applications. In addition, it fuses data from differing location-determination technologies to form the most accurate location for each subscriber in the network. The local.info application combines location with content to deliver personalised, real-time information to mobile users in proximity to their calling location.

The added value SignalSoft brings to CMGs WAP Service BrokerTM is knowing the location of a handset in terms of longitude and latitude, translating that data and then advising the mobile user of the street location, nearest ATM, restaurant, etc. The handsets position is known by the network through the cell-id or calculated from another vendors positioning equipment (e.g. GPS). Subscribers are then provided with information relevant to where they are.

Knowing the location of a mobile handset will allow carriers to provide location-specific solutions and services. For example, the new solution can use location data in order to determine the direction in which a car is travelling and then send information on the traffic conditions that lie ahead. A regular service only tells the driver what the situation is in that area; thus, the same information is sent to all drivers even though they are travelling in opposite directions.
