GeePS Introduces Location-based Wireless Technologies on Advance Internet's New Jersey Online for Retailers and Consumers

NJO Enters World of Mobile Commerce - GeePS Meets Retail's Wireless Demands

CRANBURY, NEW JERSEY, June 13, 2000 - GeePS.com, Inc. today announces an agreement with Advance Internet, a leading creator of community-based Web sites, to power wireless delivery of targeted, local shopping information and news to customers with Internet-enabled cell phones and other mobile devices.
The GeePS capabilities will be launched by New Jersey Online this summer and will enable New Jersey retailers to instantly target customers in their immediate vicinity with customized messages and offers that match shoppers profiles. The GeePS-powered services may eventually be rolled out by the nine other Advance Internet affiliates, which have been created in alliance with newspapers owned and operated by Advance Publications. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"NJO is the premier local information source for online users throughout the Garden State," said GeePS CEO Andy Goren. "It also has an essential channel for retail advertisers who need to reach that audience. With GeePS, that audience can now be reached anywhere and anytime."
GeePS has introduced the convergence of wireless (WAP) and Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technologies. GeePS provides an end-to-end mobile commerce solution for both merchants and consumers. Shoppers can surf the Wireless Web, find a local merchants coupon or promotional message and head for the store. Once in the store, consumers can complete the sales transaction with a secure wireless payment through their Internet-enabled cellular phone.
"GeePS marks Advance.nets first steps in bringing the tremendous value of our services, both local and national, to the new world of mobile," said Jeff Jarvis, president and creative director of Advance.net, which oversees the Internet vision and strategy for Advance Publications, Inc., including CondNet and Advance Internet. "As the technology matures, Advance.net will be well positioned to offer new mobile centered services and value to local consumers and commerce.
The mobile version of NJO will offer local news headlines, weather forecasts, sports scores, and stock quotes as well as location-based shopping information. Starting in July 2000, New Jersey residents can access all of this information free of charge on their Internet-enabled wireless devices. NJO and GeePS have put New Jersey into the palm of consumers hands.
"Were pleased to be working with GeePS to introduce New Jersey Online users to the latest in mobile commerce," said Peter Weinberger, president of Advance Internet. "As e-commerce expands from the Internet to mobile communication devices, this new technology will give Advance affiliates and its advertisers increased reach by making our content more accessible and convenient outside the confines of home or office."
Through the new NJO wireless portal, bricks-and-mortar merchants can now easily create and track real-time, highly-targeted promotional messages and coupons directed at wireless users in their vicinity. A wireless advertising campaign optimizes the merchants return on investment (ROI) and generates foot traffic by targeting the consumers who are in the area and ready to shop.
