Yahoo! Europe and Genie announce portal agreement London, September 6, 2000 -Yahoo! Europe and Genie (www.genie.co.uk/www.genie.nl) today announced that they have signed an agreement to make Yahoo! UK & Irelands popular range of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) content and services accessible via BTs market-leading Genie portal, which boasts over 1 million customers in the UK alone. The two companies have also agreed to co-market their alliance with a series of on and off-line advertisements.
Mobile customers accessing the Genie WAP (wap.genie.co.uk) and web portal will now have access to Yahoo!s comprehensive range of WAP services by clicking onto the Web Portals directory which gives a link to wap.yahoo.co.uk. Yahoo! services available to users include Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Calendar, Yahoo! Address Book, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Weather, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sport, Yahoo! Mobile Messenger, Yahoo! Directory, Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! TV Listing, Yahoo Bookmarks, and preconfigured My Yahoo! giving users the full Yahoo! experience at the touch of their keypad. They will also be able to enjoy Genies unrivalled WAP content from over 100 partners such as Football365, Guardian Unlimited, Sports. Com and Excite.
In addition, there will be a link from the Genie home page to Yahoo! UK & Irelands website.
The agreement with Genie is a further development in the Yahoo! Everywhere initiative which delivers Yahoo! services formatted for both fixed and wireless connections via PCs, mobile telephones, personal digital devices and digital TVs connected to the Web. Yahoo! continues to prioritise this strategy and has aggressively pursued distribution deals with both handset manufacturers and mobile network operators, including D2 (Germany), TIM (Italy), Radiolinja (Finland), Telenor (Norway), Cosmote (Greece), Telefonica (Spain) and Siemens and Trium.
For Genie, the alliance is part of its strategy to be the worlds market-leading mobile internet business by building web and wap portals with the best quality fixed and mobile content. Genie and Yahoo! plan to extend their alliance to their global platforms.
