ALTAWAVE PREVIEWS HOTSWAP TM WIRELESS SERVER AT RED HERRING�S NDA 2000 CONFERENCE FREMONT (October 30, 2000) Wireless infrastructure builder Altawave Inc. today is using its selection on a roster of emerging technology leaders invited to participate in this weeks Red Herring Magazines NDA 2000 to unveil two new products that will enable corporations to build enterprise-wide mobile intranets.
The Red Herring event is an exclusive conference for the leading players in the technology industry and beyond, including retail, finance, media and entertainment. Speakers and audience members are hand picked by the influential magazine for their innovation and vision. Altawave President and Chief Technology Officer Tom Green introduced the prestigious group to Altawaves soon-to-be available HOTSWAP TM server, their new flagship product for bringing wireless carriers closer to their premier enterprise accounts through collaborative systems management. Altawave HOTSWAP TM and AltaLinks TM personalization services provide a robust and seamless infrastructure that can be scaled to many millions of business users executing mobile applications.
HOTSWAP TM is a highly scalable infrastructure server that enables wireless carriers to empower their premium corporate clients to directly manage their employees access to their mobile intranet, while controlling the level of personalization granted to individual end-users. Among other features, the AltaLinks TM personalization services enable both carriers and enterprise managers to specify menu items displayed on wireless devices, including those that can be customized by the user and those that are fixed. Additional modules for the HOTSWAP TM server will be unveiled in 2001. The company also will develop customized modules for individual carriers and enterprise IT departments, Green added.
We believe HOTSWAP TM and AltaLinks TM will be important tools for building the mobile intranet that both enterprise IT managers and their wireless carriers want to see emerge, said Tom Green, We are introducing an architecture which will scale as carriers add services and users. And it will be a catalyst for forging strong bonds between carrier and enterprise IT staffs. Ultimately, thats the only way for the promise of the wireless Web to be realized in the corporate market.
Green also said that HOTSWAP TM currently is undergoing trial use at a major North American wireless carrier, and that Altawave expects to make it and the AltaLinks TM middleware commercially available worldwide in the first quarter of 2001.
The HOTSWAP server will allow carriers to create new value by extending what they can offer their premium enterprise accounts. It enhances a carriers ability to manage the deployment of services among users, including combining applications offered by a corporate clients IT staff, services from consumer portals and eventually authorized third-party publishers.
