Sonera signs WAP Gateway contract with APiON

21st June 1999 - Apion, a Belfast, Northern Ireland based telecoms software company, has signed a contract with Sonera Ltd of Finland for the purchase of Apion�s first to market Binnian WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Gateway product.

The Apion Binnian WAP Gateway will give Sonera, a mobile telephony operator in Finland, the ability to provide an internet service accessible to the hand-sets of its customers. Apion was first to market with this Gateway product. Denis Murphy, Apion�s Managing Director said:

It is a tremendous endorsement of our work that such a reputable and innovative operator as Sonera should be the first to take our product. Both Sonera and Apion are members of the WAP Forum which is an industry consortium driving WAP viability and acceptance. The WAP Forum has established specifications for an advanced protocol that works across different wireless network devices and standards internationally.
