Nokia Introduces Complete Testing Environment for End-to-End WAP Solutions

WAP 1.1 compliant Nokia WAP Server Beta and WAP Toolkit now available

(July 2, 1999) - The Nokia WAP Server 1.0 Beta release has been made available free of charge for the public at www.nokia.com/corporate/wap/. Software developers can now get familiar with the server development environment, and create and test complete WAP solutions. The Nokia WAP Server 1.0 Beta release includes the Nokia WAP Server software and the Nokia WAP Server Getting Started Guide.

During the beta test, the features of the Nokia WAP Server will be tested widely, and the resulting feedback will be used for ensuring a high quality delivery in the last quarter of 1999.

Nokia WAP Server provides an opportunity for companies to provide their customers and employees with mobile access to both commercial and intranet services. It communicates with the mobile terminal using the WAP protocol and either a dial-up connection or SMS. The Nokia WAP Server is a software product running under the Windows NT operating system. In addition, a new release of the Nokia WAP Toolkit has been made available. The new release enables full emulation of the WAP phone functionality against the Nokia WAP Server. Both the Nokia WAP Server and the Nokia WAP Toolkit comply with the WAP 1.1 specification.

Making the beta software available allows developers of new mobile software applications to start building their products and enables handset manufacturers to test the interoperability of their products with the Nokia WAP Server.

Both products, the Nokia WAP Server and the Nokia WAP Toolkit, are offered by Nokia Wireless Software Solutions, a Nokia unit focusing on the development of WAP technology and mobile solutions and applications for corporations and service providers, as well as mobile software platforms for software developers and system integrators.
